Safe Shelter
Ruth's Cottage provides a 12 bed confidential safe shelter to victims and their children in need of emergency residential services. Programs for children and adults are centered around safety planning, enhancing life skills, building self esteem, improving anger and stress management, and building communication skills.
How Does a Woman Get Into Ruth's Cottage?
- The client calls the toll free Crisis Line (1-800-33-HAVEN).
- The client describes her situation to the person on the Crisis Line and answers basic questions.
- The client is told and must agree to the shelter rules.
- The client is instructed to go to the Law Enforcement Center for an escort to the shelter.
- The client may make the call from the caseworker's office, and the caseworker may give information to the Crisis Line worker, but the client must actually talk to the person on the Crisis Line.
- Living at the shelter is voluntary. Clients are free to leave whenever they choose.
